A safety net for life’s stories: Alzheimers & YourStory

June 18, 2025

We’re very proud of this book.

It’s not ours personally.
We didn’t create it.
But we did play a small part in a husband helping his wife to create her book of life memories whilst time is of the essence.

Brian’s Wife has Alzheimer’s dementia.

They knew Kate’s memories and stories,
The tapestry of who Kate is,
Will not always be available to them.

Key memories will be dissolved until they are no more.

That’s why they decided it was time to secure her
Stories
Thoughts &
Feelings whilst Kate is still able to recall some of them in vivid detail.

And the benefit?

Kate’s grandchildren get to read, in their Grandmother’s own words….

-How she met their Grandfather on a life-changing blind date at the Odeon cinema, 57 years ago.

-How growing up, Kate’s passion for horses led to riding bareback along Hayling Island beach, on a 16 hands high horse that decided it was time for a gallop instead of canter!

An immersion into who Kate is and the life she has led!

The irreplaceable made tangible and treasurable.

Brian asked Kate the questions and typed up her stories for her. Now the whole family gets to enjoy them forever.

(Something I very much would have liked to have had from my own grandmother who suffered from Alzheimers).

And an added bonus –
Kate’s book is now a memory aid for her to take joy and comfort in.

We know that for those with Alzheimers, long-term memory remains the most accurate.

Kate’s book is a safety net of memories.

Providing refuge in those solid, reliable memories when other elements of life are gradually becoming less stable and we are very touched to have had a helping hand in this.

Brian very kindly allowed us to share this case study with you to help highlight how a YourStory book can be a remarkable thing in situations like this.

In Kate’s own words she “enjoyed reminiscing over her life with satisfaction and pride” to create her book.

And Kate and Brian are not our only customers using a YourStory book, due to tough circumstances, to capture a loved one’s legacy.

It’s quite something when your job makes you feel proud of your time here on earth.

And that’s exactly what my Brother and I are lucky to feel running YourStory

What stories would you choose first to go in your safety net of memories?
Feel free to let me know at hello@yourstory.co.uk.

Warm regards, Alyson.
